Calculating Your Employees Social Reach

Let's do some basic math...

  1. How many employees do you have? For this exercise lets say you have 30 employees

  2. On average they each have 9 social media accounts

  3. This gives your employees a total of 270 social media accounts

  4. Now let's be conservative and say they regularly post to just three social media platforms - Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

  5. 30 employees using just three social media platforms each gives your employees a combined total of 90 social media accounts.

How many people could you reach if each of your 30 employees reposted just one thing on three platforms each month? Let's calculate that..

  1. Facebook - 30 employees sharing one company post with their 338 friends gives you an organic reach of 10,140

  2. Twitter - 30 employees retweeting one company post to their audaudience of 707 followers gives you a reach of 21,210

  3. Instagram - 30 employees sharing one Instagram post to their average of 150 followers gives you a reach of 4,500

  4. So, 30 employees reposting just one post per month on just 3 social media platforms gives you a combined organic reach of 35,850

Familiarity Builds Trust

One post per month per employee on just three social media platforms feels like a pretty achievable objective to attain. But, what if you incentivized social media posting? It takes a little more work but what if you could increase that once per month to once per week? That 35,850 now becomes 143,400. Granted these are the same people you're reaching each time, plus there would have been overlap to begin with due to friends following each other on all platforms, but brand awareness is the real goal here. So repetition becomes valuable, it forces people to take note, your brand becomes familiar and familiarity (especially between friends) builds trust.

Are you doing anything right now to incentivize your employees to repost your content, or share their own company content on social media? If you aren't, you should be. Your brand extends far beyond your logo and imaging, your employees are a huge part of your brand themselves, work is a huge part of their lives and they want to be proud of where they work and what they do.
